Group Exposures by What Drives Them
List each holding and ask what helps or hurts its business. Several companies may all depend on interest rates, consumer spending, the same commodity or a shared customer. Funds can overlap with individual stocks you already own.
Include Risks Beyond Share Prices
Cash needs, debt payments, employment and a business you own belong in the conversation. A long investment horizon does not automatically solve a near-term liquidity need. Consider what you would do if markets fell while your income also declined.
Use Scenarios as Questions
Choose a few adverse conditions and describe the potential effect across your holdings. A scenario is not a forecast or a maximum possible loss. Use it to identify concentrations and questions for a qualified professional, rather than to assign yourself a personalized allocation.
