Name the Content Type
Before acting on a headline, identify whether it is reported news, an opinion column, advertising, a sponsored interview or community discussion. Ask whether the writer links to documents and distinguishes verified information from interpretation.
Trace One Important Claim
Open the filing, earnings release, study or government series behind the claim. Check the date and units. Revenue is not profit, a forecast is not an actual result and a percentage increase from a small base can look dramatic without being economically large.
Build a Balanced Reading Stack
Use a primary source, a publication that explains context and a skeptical question of your own. Community posts can surface ideas, but verify their evidence and incentives. Our source notes describe editorial use cases; they do not certify every article a publisher produces.
